In April 2006, due to a deep low pressure system in the far southern Tasman Sea, an exceptionally large southerly swell was experienced along the south coast of NSW (New South Wales) which reach a crescendo on the weekend of April 6. The swell ranged from 1.5 metre to 8 metres on the Saturday and Sunday (with many calling it Big Sunday).
The Kiama Blowhole (located below the Kiama Lighthouse) often puts on its best display when there is a south-east swell; but this can also coincide with overcast/cloudy weather whereby the visual magnitude of it is washed out by the cloudy or overcast sky. On April 6th 2006, the Kiama Blow Hole was showcasing its splendour with a perfect blue sky.
Kiama, a beautifully set seaside town located on the south coast of NSW, is located about 130kms south of Sydney and sits beautifully between the escarpment of the Southern Highlands and the Pacific Ocean. The coast at Kiama is probably some of the most beautiful in all the country; and it comes as no surprise that it is one of the state's top holiday
