Lightning Ridge:
"Though you've roamed the whole world over, seen most all there is to see, there are scenes you've never dreamed of, in the stone of mystery." Laurie Hudson, Cumborah Postmaster 1947-1965.
Like the illusive Black Opal it is famous for, Lightning Ridge, shows its varying colours depending on how you look at it. It is so welcoming that many people touring outback NSW who visit Lightning Ridge end up staying... not for a few days (although many do) but to live. It is one of those places.
Lightning Ridge is located just south of the NSW/Queensland border on the Castlereagh Highway about 9hrs south west of Brisbane and about 9hrs north west of Sydney.
