Sydney - Melbourne
There is something individually unique about Australia’s two great cities, yet many residents of each feel the need to compare each to determine which is better; something about the competitive nature of Australians. So which is better? Neither, as it is like comparing an apple with an orange.
Melbourne, the food and fashion capital of Australia, presents the visitor with a myriad of things to do and see; and many unique vistas for the photographer. Much is made if its rivalry with its northern cousin Sydney but there really cannot be any comparisons as each city has its own unique qualities and stand on their own as marvelous Australia cities.
Melbourne presents itself as a very cosmopolitan city with a lovely multicultural fabric that makes the city of Melbourne a pleasure to visit and it is not only about sport. The European feel to the city (in a similar vein to Stockholm or Paris) with its restaurants cafes and wonderful lane-ways provides for a easy and pleasurable experience around the city as well as St Kilda, South Yarra and Carlton. Add to this that it is the fashion capital of Australia (not to mention the sports capital as well).
Sydney photography - Sydney is one of those cities that as soon as you get a glimpse of the harbour that you know that you are in an international city; and like many other iconic cities (Paris - Stockholm etc) photography subjects are everywhere. The icon that is the Sydney Harbour Bridge presses that feeling home immediately as it is one of the worlds most recognised icons; whether it is bathed in fireworks on New Years Eve or just providing a back drop for the Harbour itself or the magnificent Sydney Opera House The Opera House is also one of those surreal experiences when you first lay your eyes on it.
