Welcome to the online photographic gallery of Australian photographer Simon Bayliss. A passionate landscape photographer, Simon's photographic journey began as a child but not pursued until after a long hiatus while pursuing the 'normal' career path. Over the last 8 years Simon has tirelessly reconnected with the inner creative though both self education and endless road trips in the pursuit of nurturing his innate photographic character.
The photography Simon produces is available as Limited Edition prints (signed and numbered) as well as under licence for editorial and advertising.
With brilliant lighting and careful settings, his photographs are both impressive and impressionistic.
Having spent much of his formative years in the Riverina (Mathoura) just north of Echuca and the Murray River he recognises a strong connection to the land of the Outback and he was fortunate to have been able to translate this into photography when he was commissioned to photograph Outback NSW with a focus on the iconic Darling River.
The desire for a change in direction came in his late 30's when he decided to take a break from the corporate world and fulfil a dream to ride a motorcycle through Europe and to reconnect with the photographer within. So early in 2000 he fulfilled his dream and returned to Melbourne Australia and held his first exhibition " Through My Eyes... Voyage d'un Australien en France".
Simon imagery is characterised by a wonderful interest and understanding of landforms and geomorphology and he captures the beautiful landscape and seascapes with a timeless vision.
A favourite credo of Simon's, and it is how he describes his work, is to 'specialise in diversity' as the multiplicity of subjects forces one out of the comfort zone and the elements of this can be applied to other types of photography. This application to his craft can be seen in the imagery of Sydney and Melbourne while further afield he enjoys returning the city that it all started with, Paris.
His landscape work is not limited to the Great Southern Land of Australia but across the Tasman to New Zealand and not content with the antipodean landscapes he set off in 2009 to the lands of the Vikings (Scandinavia) to photograph many parts of Sweden over the summer.
With his creative desires being nurtured, Simon also enjoys developing web sites and web content as he finds the 'cerebral gymnastics' of web development a great challenge and is particularly interested in Content Management Systems (CMS) as a way to not only share his photography but also his travel and tourism experiences; having travelled extensively throughout Australia, Europe and the USA, he feels that he has a lot to contribute when it comes to the experiences of a traveller and tourist. A recent project of which he was an integral part was the Darling River Run Project that won the 2009 Tourism NSW Gold award for Tourism Marketing in addition to collecting two awards at the Inland Tourism Awards (Tourism Marketing and New Tourism Development).
