Abisko National Park
Norrbotten, Sweden, Lappland
The northernmost 'county' (län) of Sweden, Norrbotten, is a majestic and ethereal region of Lappland (Lappland is not specific to Sweden but includes Norway, Finland, and Russia's Kola Peninsula)
A land of majestic beauty and remoteness, Sweden's Lapland has many iconic destinations. One very special place that should be on anyone's list is Abisko whose national park is a mecca for summer and winter travellers seeking nature's experiences.
Abisko National Park, 67.8558 North, is located 94km west of Kiruna, and nearly 200 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle.
This majestic park attracts nature lovers and hikers in summer with many great walking trails from beginners up to the Kungsleden (Kings Trail); despite the Kings Trail being over 440 km, the most popular section stretches 105 km between Abisko and Nikkaluokta.
Located to the east of Torne träsk, one of Sweden's largest lakes, the mountains around Abisko rise majestically to the west of the lake with the iconic 'U' Shaped Lapporten (Lapland Gate), is located to the west of the park and like many often photographed majestic natural wonders, can only be properly appreciated in real-life.
